Poem #1

As I said, I partially created this blog to share some of the poems that I write. So here's the first one. It's about how people search for truth. A lot of times on our search for truth, there comes a point where we feel like we are searching in vain. It feels like truth will always elude us. However, if we continue in our search for truth long enough it will inevitably lead us to God. This poem is a story about a search for truth.

A Wandering Child

Like a child in a crowd
I wandered from my father
I was looking for truth
But I could not spot her

Perhaps she's at the marketplace
With men so clever and sly
I'll become like them, I thought
Perhaps she'll pass me by

She might be in the strokes
Of a painter's colors and brush
In beauty I thought I found her
But she left hastily in a rush

Surely she'll be found at the courthouse
With justice, decrees, and law
Whose structure gave safety
But she was not there at all

After this I began to worry
There was no where else to look
Truth was still hiding away from me
All my strength the search had took

I ran to the house of my father
He stood outside waiting for me
As he hugged me I felt his deep love
In such love, truth will always be

Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know what you think.

  1. Very good writing- I like how you make "truth" a being, and I like the imagery of her running from you, and you finding her back in the arms of the father. Very effective poem.

  2. Great poem Trey. Like Jill, I thought that making truth a being allowed you to use concrete language that worked very well. I thought it was really good how truth was where you started, in the arms of the father. Often what we are searching for is where we are, we just haven't looked for it properly.
